{SUMMER WRAP-UP} i'm back + photo dump

HELLO I'M BACK *waves*

I missed you all so much last month! But I did have a blast with my family and just being out and about and living. Taking a blogging break every once in a while is needed :)

Anyway, a TON has happened since I was last blogging, so I'm going to kick off my fall blogging  with a recap of the summer + a billion photos.

MY SUMMER BUCKET LIST:

Hike into Yosemite Valley

Ride some bike trails

Send Found to an editor

Write draft #4 of Outcast

Do a blog makeover

Film a vlog
Learn to drive a stick shift (car)

Watch a sunrise and a sunset in the mountains

See a green flash (at sunset)

Attend Realm Makers

 Do more writing prompts

Take a blogging hiatus

COMPLETED BUCKET LIST

#1 Hike into Yosemite Valley -- completed 8/8
that railing is really unsturdy so I'm silently begging it not to break xD
My dad and I did this hike together. We planned to park, hike into the Yosemite Valley, then ride the bus back to our car. As you can see in the pic below, the elevation is a little high at the gate. Just a little?

We almost didn't go on the hike because of the amount of smoke in the air. There was a fire nearby, and every time you took a breath, you could smell the smoke. It tinted the sunlight a bit. It was my last week in the mountains though, so it was our only chance to go. Luckily, it cleared out a bit later.

this was just...cool
Once we got to the highest point of our hike, before the downhill, there were some pretty awesome views.
Half Dome is not supposed to look like that :P #smoke

And then we started to go...down. And down. And down down down down. We later learned that we'd descended over 2000 feet from the top of Yosemite Falls to the valley floor. That's... a lot.
I took these pics with my iPod, so I have NO CLUE how this one came out so gorgeous. But this was the monster we were descending next to.

I'm pretty sure we'd been hiking for over an hour before this view came. We'd started way up at the top of the water
After two and a half hours, my dad and I finally reached the bottom. My feet were blistered and my knees ached from the rough trail. I intended to take a ton of pics of the valley floor, but all I could do was limp along I could soak my blisters in a stream. ;)

#2 Ride some bike trails - completed 7/6

(This one sounds a bit vague since I don't want to tell the Internet where I spent the summer :P) But I got on some awesome trails and even caught air a few times on the downhills. I'm not an adrenaline junky, but sometimes I can't resist doing something like that xD

#3 Do a blog makeover - completed 7/1

This makeover was a blast! I love all the feathers and colors and plan on keeping this look for a while <3

#4 Film a vlog - completed 7/11

I had a lot of fun with this! If you haven't seen it yet, here's the link.

#5 Learn to drive a stick shift - completed 8/6

In classic Audrey style, I got the shifting right the first time, then....

BUT I rallied the second time I went out driving, and sort of kind of know how to do it, so I count it as a success.

#6 Watch a sunrise and a sunset in the mountains -- completed-ish 7/22

I saw a bunch of sunsets, but never got up early enough to watch a sunrise xP I saw a few through my window while I was lying in bed at 6am, but I didn't go out and actually watch the sun rise over the mountains. Oops :P

watching sunsets from here is "a thing" in my town

#7 See a green flash - completed 6/27

Ack, it was so incredible! I didn't get an actual picture of it though because it goes too fast

#8 Attend Realm Makers - completed 7/29

I wrote a whole blog post about it and filled it with photos so I won't add any more here xD

#9 Take a blogging hiatus - completed!

This was originally supposed to be an "Internet hiatus" but I kinda went on the Internet often. ;) I did get re-energized though and did some awesome things with family!
I missed the ocean <3
I have a thing with trees. I just loooove them.

UNCOMPLETED BUCKET LIST

#1 Send Found to an editor - fail

This, um, well...it didn't work. AT ALL. xD Here why:

1) I was too stressed. Editing is impossible to rush.
2) the novel wasn't ready for an editor and I knew it. It was more at the stage of another beta read.
3) there was a...problem. A big silly plot problem.

Silly problem explained: I was out on the deck editing, and read a certain section that had gotten positive beta reader feedback. It suddenly struck me that the awesome conflict in this scene had nearly nothing to do with the main conflict of the entire book, though it could because the main conflict of the book could be changed (which shouldn't have been able to happen this late in the writing process xP)

And I came to the realization that my novel is needing book surgery.

#2 Write draft 4 of Outcast - fail

This happened because of the above plot problem. It looks like I'm going to need a rewrite, so I can't nail down the conflict of the second book until the first book is finished.

#3 Do more writing prompts - fail-ish

This is a "fail-ish" because I did do writing prompt-ish stuff. I wrote a ton of free verse poetry but didn't actually do any real writing prompts. So...self-explanatory?

RANDOM THINGS

running outside in the middle of a rainstorm and tilting my face to the sky + posting on Instagram about said-rainstorm

surviving a summer of biking without a crash (though my brother wasn't so lucky :P)

going back to choir after a summer of being away and not missing too many notes

watching La La Land (reaction: AAAHHHH ASDFJKL) and Pride and Prejudice (reaction: EEPPP WHY CAN'T ALL ROMANCES BE LIKE THIS?)

the realization that I'm eligible to get my license next month. help

epically failing to complete my summer TBR (which is why that is not part of this wrap-up)

THINGS TO COME

Mainly the return of my posts every Saturday morning! *confetti* I have some awesome posts planned out for the month that I can't wait to share :D

AND here's the "big writing update" I've been mentioning elsewhere on social media:

I have a new WIP.

I actually mentioned it during my vlog, though that was before I started working on it. The idea came randomly one night in July The thought literally popped into my head with no warning: what if dreams (spoiler)?
Then, even more random: what if my main character was blind, but (spoiler)? and what if she could communicate telepathically with (spoiler)?

A few days later, on Pinterest, I was scrolling through a private board I'd created. Suddenly I figured it could go along with this new novel idea. And in there I found the biggest inspiration for this WIP--a prompt. (which is weird, bc I've never found them very helpful until now xD)

BAM I had a book idea I was dying to write. But I was so busy with Found.... So when I realized I might need to rewrite Found (more on that in my newsletter coming this Tuesday), I decided to put  Found on hold and start on this new WIP that was running away with my imagination.

In short, I have a new WIP you can learn more about on my What I'm Writing page :)

******

THANK YOU for reading this long post. It's great to be back in blogsphere!

AHHH AUDREY'S BACK. <3 <3 *throws confetti* So cool to hear about your summer!! It looks like you've had a great time!!
Not sure if it's just me but the pictures don't seem to be showing up? D:

Spriiiing has come to me. *celebrates* It was the most gorgeous spring-y day today, honestly. Absolutely lovely.
Winter wasn't too bad. It didn't rain at all, so everything is super dry and dead but that's what happens when it doesn't really rain for three months in a row.

My WIP has...not really been going anywhere. What with making a website and critiquing and school and everything I've really been jam-packed for time and it's annoying because I really really /want/ to do it, but somehow I'm not super inspired?? I don't even understand anymore.

BUT EEP. Your WIP sounds SO COOL. *flails* I can't waaaait to hear moooore.

YAYYYY YOU'RE BACK! That's so great you did most of the things on your bucket list! (I especially admire you for that hike. I...don't do well with hikes.)

Ooooooh I love the sound of your new WIP!

For some reason the photos aren't showing up for me as well? But anyway, wonderful post! I'm happy you're back! :D

Your pics aren't showing up.
But YOUR BACK!!! I've missed your posts. Glad to see you had a great break. And driving stick is an accomplishment. I've only driven automatic and I intend to keep it that way, lol. Stick is intimidating to me.
Glad you're back! <3

Yay, you're back! :D I've missed reading your posts (I still have a couple I haven't read yet, but I will when I have some more time). I too, am back to posting every Saturday. :D I've missed blogging since I never had enough time to post every week while I was at camp. :P

Wow! Nice job on accomplishing almost everything on your bucket list! :D I didn't have one myself, but I did have a TBR. That was an epic fail. :P

I'm sorry you've been having trouble with "Found". :( I've been having some trouble with "Strangers" but nothing really major or anything. Ohh, you got an idea for another novel? :D That's so exciting! And also kinda funny, because I just got an idea for another novel too. :D

(None of your pictures are showing up for me.)

It sounds like you had an amazing summer! :)

AAHH SUCH A FUN SUMMER. I love all the outdoor-sy stuff because sometimes I feel like people think writers sit in front of their desks all day and must be afraid of the outdoors. #nope xD

It sounds like you had an awesome break from blogging!! Your pictures make me want to hike RIGHT NOW. They turned out so beautiful! I have yet to see a green flash, but I hope to one day!

Good luck with your writing! It sucks that your book needs surgery, but better late than never! :D

Looking forward to more posts!

Your month sounds like it was terrific! Yosemite is so pretty. My word. I'd love to go sometime... we just live so freakin' far away from the West :{

Your reaction to Pride and Prejudice makes me happy :D It's one of my favorites! And AHHH THE MOUNTAINNNNNS ARE SO PRETTYYYYYYY! I really really really want to go to some mountains. I don't remember ever having seen mountains, even though I went as a young child. I really want to go again and do some hiking! I also looove trees EEEE. I love climbing them and hugging them and snuggling up in them and they're just so lovely.

And wow NEW WIP!? YASSS. Though I have to say I am very dissatisfied by your description there. *glares at all the spoiler interruptions* I'm going to your writing page to get more details!

Also, I know some of your writing goals didn't get completed. But dude--you LIVED this summer. And that is fabulous <3

Wow, the photos from Yosemite - that must've been an epic hike! It looks like lovely scenery. Congratulations on crossing so many things off your bucket list! And go you with driving a stick shift (we can them a manual over here) - I know that's not easy and stalling is a very real thing. :)

Your summer sounds like it was lovely and outdoorsy! And productive, too... *guilty shifty eyes*

I haven't seen La La Land yet, but I LOVE Pride and Prejudice! (Even though P+P = EXCUSE ME WHERE IS MY MR DARCY [#RUDE])

Best wishes for your new WIP! It sounds fascinating :)

GAH I LOVE IT WHEN PLOT BUNNIES STRIKE OUT OF NOWHERE!! Your new WIP sounds amazing even though we don't get to hear the whole idea (I TOTALLY FEEL YOU THO and there's no way I'm revealing the plot of my NaNo novel this year because I'M TOO IN LOVE WITH IT AN SO OVERPROTECTIVE.!) I was trying to take a nap one day and literally just about to fall asleep and then BOOM ANOTHER BOOK IDEA HIT ME so I had to write it all down and my mom came in and was like "I thought you were sleeping" and I was like "LOL NOPE I GOT ANOTHER PLOT BUNNY" sigh.... #writerslife xD

It looks like you had an awesome time in Yosemite!! I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO THERE. Hiking is so much fun. <3 I love how you included photos for all the things you did on your bucket list!! SO COOL. also I thought the green flash thing was just a myth??? O_O I'M GOING TO HAVE TO LOOK FOR IT NOW.

Looking forward to all the new content! YOU GO, GIRL!

rock on,

YES, I AM xD The pics should be up now, too. (I'm out of practice with blogging xP)

That's so cool! Are there a ton of leaf-bearing trees where you live? Flowers?

Ack, I know. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time talking about writing than actually writing :P

AAHHH THANK YOU. I'm talking about it a little more in my newsletter, but only after I finish the first draft will I have a synopsis up because *everything* seems to change as I write the first draft.

MOUNTAINS ARE LIFE. YOU MUST SEE SOME. Even though the ocean is my second love I cannot live without mountains <33 I would love to live where I could climb trees though, because palm trees or pine trees are impossible to climb xD

Sorry, but it's just in the first draft :P I'm hoping to have it done at the end of the month though and put up a synopsis, so stay tuned ;)

YES, I DID. I haven't really done that in a while (*guilty*) but it makes me want to do it more often, like every day.

OMW IT LITERALLY HAPPENED THE SAME WAY FOR ME. It was around midnight and I suddenly had the idea and jumped out of bed to find a notebook. I had to turn the light on then almost touched a spider *shudders* and my mom came in and was like "what are you doing?" And I was like "Ah...got a book idea. couldn't wait until morning" xD

YES, green flashes are totally real! (though not quite as big as in Pirates of the Caribbean :P) Just watch the sun sink into the water on a clear evening and I bet you'll see one!

Ack, thank you, Abbie! <3 It's great to be back blogging!

Hey Audrey, it's great to have you back!!!! It sounds like you had a great rest of the summer! Those pictures are AMAZING!!!

And your new WIP sounds so cool. But that annoying break in the sentence that doesn't allow us to really know whats going down. It seems... familiar 😕 😋 anyways i can't wait to learn more about it!

My summer has been pretty good. I started the life of an on campus college student at the Master's so yeah, it's great!

Oooh, cool! I hope this year goes great for you!
